Personality: Alex is one of those people who's more comfortable with a book than with a person. If he's reading then he'll probably ignore everything else which is happening around him. He can be a bit cold sometimes and it does take him a while to realise if people are upset or scared. His strict upbringing left him out of touch with others, so he sometimes retreats into the world of books. However, he does try to understand someone's problem if they ask him for advice, not that that's very likely to happen.
Some people say that, since he came from deatheater parents, Alex must hate muggles. In all honesty, he doesn't care for them. That is not because he is prejudiced however, it's merely because he doesn't particularly care for anyone apart from extremely close family and friends.
Likes: History of Magic, Transfiguration, Ancient Runes, Reading, Chocolate frogs (though his mother doesn't normally let him have them)
Dislikes: People insulting his parents (although he is starting to insult them himself sometimes), Himself when he gets angry at his parents, People judging him, Quidditch (whats the point?)
Strenghts: Logical thinker, Intelligent, Not easily manipulated
Weaknesses: Doesn't work well with others, Cold
History: The De Vere's are a pureblood family which stretches back hundreds of years, a fact which Alex's father mentions a great deal. In the past, they viewed muggles and muggle borns as filthy lowlifes to be despised and killed, even going so far as to join the deatheaters. However, in the wake of the wizarding war, they have started to see the error of their ways. Whereas the older De Veres are slightly stuck in their ways, the youngest generation are slightly more accepting. For instance, Alex has never used the word 'mudblood' as an insult, yet his father has done so on numerous occasions.
Alex was raised in a very strict, pureblood household and was not allowed to mingle with anyone his parents didn't completely approve of. As a result of this, Alex has not met many people and is not entirely at ease in conversations. He quite often lapses into silence if a thought comes into his head which is more interesting than the conversation.
