Pansy stood and listened as the man's speech dragged on. She didn't show her boredom on her face, which in fact looked as though she was paying attention. But if she was honest, she wouldn't even be able to tell you the man's name were it not to publicized by the event. With a name like that, too, it's not too difficult to remember. None the less, the woman remained faux-attentive throughout the speech and only briefly wondered why they were only just hearing of this man who was the reason for the entire event.
The evening was supposed to be boring, only with food. That was what she had prepared herself for. She hadn't seen death for many years, and she really did not want to start again now. Pansy stood dumbfounded until the words of people searching for family and screams of fright and protest tore her from her shock-induced state. Within moments, her wand was drawn and she was looking around for the attacker. How she had changed from when she was still in school and playing the part of the cowardly antagonist.
Seeing many faces, she sighed in realization that she would never be able to find out who had murdered the older male. Her eyes searched for the one person that she truly cares about, and when her eyes met with the light blonde hair of Draco Malfoy, who was alive and currently uninjured, she was relieved. Pansy wouldn't go to him, though. She didn't know whether or not he knew that she still, and probably always would love him, but she didn't like to make it known any more.
Just when she thought that maybe things would calm down, a scream that pierced her eardrums filtered into the room. Her eyes closed in pain and her fingers gripped her wand in her hand even tighter. The woman's scream remained imprinted in her mind, even when she was finally able to open her eyes.
"Please don't. No more! Merlin please stop!!"
She didn't know who the woman was, and Pansy wished that the newly developed selflessness would leave her alone. All she wanted to do was find the person, who was in obvious anguish and help it stop. The snarky Slytherin that still resided in her was disgusted in her own development. She didn't want to care, so she did what she knew best. She blocked her emotions and set her sites on escape. Pansy rushed off, trying to make it to a wall, which she would them be able to follow to a door. In her haste, she almost didn't stop when she ran straight in to somebody. "Oh, I'm so sor-- I mean, move out of my way."
