History:
Her mother was a pureblood witch who fell in love with a muggle. Though engaged to another (admittedly wealthy and influential) wizard, she ran away and got married to her father, knowing that she'd be disowned from her family, shunned, and unable to use magic ever again. But that was okay, as long as she had her husband. Thomas Knightley was a devout muggle christian, and knew nothing of Addison's magical history. They lived a happy life together, having three daughters; Kate, Beth and Kim. When Kate was three, her mother finally revealed that she was a witch, hoping that her husband would understand. And if he didn't, he'd remain civil and not do anything drastic, if not for her but for their children.
Her father was far from understanding. He didn't divorce Addison, because that would tarnish his flawless reputation, but he began to abuse her, both physically and verbally. He stopped allowing Kate and her sisters off to play with their friends after school, never again trusting them to be loose and free on their own. Though he never once raised his hand to any three of them, he called them things like devil's spawn, or 'biggest mistakes of his life'. Her mother tried her best to shield her children from his words, but some of the insults always seemed to make it through some of the cracks.
When she was five, her mother slit her wrists in their bathroom. Kate nor her sisters were ever meant to hear, but her father had never been one to keep his voice down, especially when he was agitated. The muggle police began investigating the Knightley household, and eventually removed Kate, Beth and Kim from her father's custody, deeming him an unfit parent. Kate now lives with her uncle Earl on her mother's side, in a small town in East Yorkshire.
As a result, Kate grew up slightly colder than most children. She is constantly on her guard, blatantly rude and snappy to anyone who crosses her. When she was fourteen, she streaked her hair with blue and green hair dye, as a way of rebelling. Though she know longer lives with her father, Kate can still feel his almost ever-constant gaze, and will do almost anything that he knows he disapproves of just to try and defy him as much as she can. She is fiercely loyal to her sisters and anyone she might befriend, though she might not show it much.
